Syracuse could scarcely have asked for a tougher end to the regular season if it had wanted to. On Friday, they suffered through a 6-1 blowout against the then-ranked No. 3 Clemson Tigers. Clemson moved to No. 2 with the win, while Pittsburgh, who beat Virginia 4-1 on the same day, became the new No. 3-ranked team on the United Soccer Coaches poll.
Last time out, things got off to a rough start for the Orange, when Michael Acquah received a red card following a video review, and Syracuse was forced to play a man down for the next 75 minutes of play. Ezra Widman did get on the board with a 36th minute goal, but that was the most Syracuse managed while Clemson ran up the score.
Pitt lost to 3-2 to Syracuse when the teams clashed in September of 2023, and Syracuse has a 6-4 all-time lead over the Panthers. But Pittsburgh boasts a 12-3 overall record and 6-1 in the ACC this season.
